Calaguas Island

for the Best Islands & Beaches category

History & Location

Calaguas is part of a 17 island group nestled along the Pacific Ocean. It is under the administration of the town of Vinzons in the province of Camarines Norte. For a 2-hour worth of boat ride from the mainland, one will find a paradise of powdery white-sand beaches, pristine crystal clear waters and a whole lot of unspoiled natural resources.

While soaking in the beauty of the island, a long walk along it’s white-sand shore is a must, especially at night when fireflies crowd along the beach to give visitors a spectacular light show. If that’s not enough, one could also hike Tinago Hill that offers a bird’s eye view of the shoreline. Ideal time to go is at golden hours, during which the sun hovers perfectly over the horizon and makes it seem to be an island of gold.

After snorkelling, scuba diving, or island hopping around Calaguas, one may opt to explore a nearby mountain. Mt. Labo is the highest peak in the province of Camarines Norte. Thereafter one can go straight to Daet and taste the sweetest pineapples or grab some ‘pasalubongs’ for family and friends back home.

Apart from the clear waters and white sand beach of Calaguas Island, You will be able to witness the majestic Milkyway during April to October. The island is located far from the light pollution of the cities and towns. The perfect spot to relax during the day and witness something amazing at night. – Ivan Gatla
